What is QIP?

QIP stands for Quality Improvement Program which is being introduced this academic year by the Office of Research. The Office of Research is unwavering in its desire to provide timely, efficient and investigator-focused services through the use of fully integrated administrative systems and state-of-the-art technological tools. The end result of QIP will be a measurably improved quality of life for all people engaged in the research enterprise through enhanced research services at UCSF.

QIP means the Office of Research will:

  • Analyze processes & outcomes
  • Create performance standards
  • Design measurement tools
  • Incorporate technologyl advances
  • Monitor & report results

You may ask, why are we embarking on this program now?

QIP will accomplish these goals through the following steps:

 •  Analyze procedures and identify        opportunities for improvement
 •  Quantify workload and time-to-completion
 •  Identify issues and prioritize
 •  Develop standards for performance
 •  Evaluate resource requirements

Why Should You Care?

With a greater understanding of the needs of our research community and providing services that match those needs, the Office of Research will better fulfill its mission of promoting research and improving health, by establishing an infrastructure that allows for researchers to continue being successful in winning research awards. Our aim is to provide excellence in research administration in order for our research community to accomplish excellent research.

Under the direction of a newly created Research Administration Board: faculty and staff from schools, and departments who will provide input and ongoing communication, the leaders of QIP are Interim Associate Vice Chancellor, Clifford Roberts, and Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor, Wanda Ellison Crockett.
