| Inhalant anesthetics |
| 1. Isoflurane |
- administer with an anesthetic machine and proper exhaust system

| Injectable anesthetics |
| 2. Ketamine 5-6 mg/kg IV and Diazepam 0.1-0.2 mg/kg IV |
- for surgery also use a local anesthetic at the surgery site
- diazepam is particularly effective in sheep as a sedative and muscle relaxant

| 3. Pentobarbital |
20 to 30 mg/kg IV |
- quite rapidly metabolized by ruminants,
light surgical anesthesia lasts only 15 to 20 minutes in adult animals
