Brian is the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor - Research Infrastructure & Operations (SAVC-RIO). As SAVC-RIO he leads the Research Infrastructure & Operations Office (RIO). The RIO units provide key support in the areas of human and animal research oversight, laboratory animal resource center, research cores, research development, international research support, and environment, health, and safety.

Brian also serves as UCSF’s Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer (CECO). As CECO, he is responsible for a wide range of compliance-related matters for the campus and health system, including clinical compliance, research integrity, financial conflicts of interest, and whistleblower and retaliation complaints.
