Brian is the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor - Research Infrastructure & Operations (SAVC-RIO). As SAVC-RIO he leads the Research Infrastructure & Operations Office (RIO). The RIO units provide key support in the areas of human and animal research oversight, laboratory animal resource centers, research cores, research development, international research support, and environment, health, and safety.

Brian also serves as UCSF’s Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer (CECO). As CECO, he is responsible for overseeing and implementing key compliance programs that ensure that UCSF fulfills its missions of high-quality research, clinical care, and teaching while preventing fraud, abuse, and waste.
