Dear Research Community,
Thank you for continued attention to the updates in our weekly digest. UCSF continues to navigate the evolving federal research landscape. While there are a number of potential impacts on our research community from recent actions, the current impacts remain largely in three areas: individual award terminations, general delays in receipt of notice of awards (NOAs), and restrictions on research involving foreign collaborators funded through subawards. Please visit the Office of Research dashboard for the latest metrics on the first two of these areas.
Regarding the restrictions on foreign subawards, I want to thank the nearly 300 of you who attended our June 2 informational forum on the topic. Following that meeting, I spent two days in Washington, DC, with IGHS Executive Director Payam Nahid to engage with policymakers and advocate for UCSF research. We met with bipartisan congressional office and committee staff to directly communicate the negative impacts of this new policy and ask members of Congress to contact the administration with alternative solutions that we provided. A copy of UCSF's one-pager on this topic that summarizes the issue and our recommendations can be found in the Additional Resources section of our landing page.
I look forward to providing more updates and resources related to the above issues and the larger federal landscape at the June 18 Office of Research Town Hall. Please make sure to register here to receive the Zoom information.
Yours,
Hal
