IMPORTANT: Updated Directive to UCSF Clinical and Non-laboratory Researchers

March 16, 2020

To All UCSF Research Faculty:

On March 15, UCSF's research faculty were sent an e-mail requiring postponement of all non-essential laboratory-based research activities. This follow-on e-mail specifically addresses plans for clinical and non-laboratory-based research activities:

  • All clinical and non-laboratory-based research faculty at UCSF should direct staff and trainees in their research groups to work remotely and should postpone all non-essential research activities occurring at UCSF facilities.
  • Clinical and non-laboratory-based research at UCSF facilities related to COVID-19 or that is deemed essential and is not possible to conduct remotely may continue. For human subjects-based research, please refer to the interim policy on human subjects research visits for guidance on determination of essential research.
  • All clinical and non-laboratory based personnel critical to the conduct of essential clinical and non-labortory based research at UCSF facilities should be registered through the following survey: https://ucsf.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cXQyFGIVlA4MhzD. (Please note that this is a different survey from the laboratory-based researcher survey circulated on March 15). It is possible that clinical and non-laboratory-based research personnel not registered through this survey will not be allowed into UCSF facilities.

The continuity of clinical and non-laboratory related research conducted outside of UCSF facilities also may be affected by local directives and policies, which should be monitored closely and adhered to by PIs and their research team.

Please direct questions about this policy to the following address: [email protected]

Sincerely,
