Effective immediately: Mandatory Curfew Measures Affecting UCSF Researchers

June 2, 2020

Dear UCSF Research Community:

There is currently a citywide curfew in place in San Francisco requiring everyone to stay indoors from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The curfew will remain in effect until changed or rescinded by Mayor London Breed’s Office. To ensure compliance with the City’s order toward public safety during nighttime hours, I am writing in regard to additional and mandatory measures implemented at UCSF that will have an impact on our research activities.

For UCSF researchers in San Francisco
In accordance with the Mayor’s curfew order, the Office of Research requires that all UCSF researchers refrain from traveling to or from research sites from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. while the curfew is in effect.

To safely observe the city’s curfew hours, researchers who feel they must travel to UCSF facilities must arrive by 7:30 p.m. and be prepared to stay within our facilities until 5:30 a.m.

For UCSF researchers in other cities
Similar curfews are in effect throughout the Bay Area. Researchers who work at sites outside of San Francisco should comply in accordance with that city’s curfew order, leaving a half-hour before and after the curfew. I encourage you to check your local ordinance online to determine your city’s specific curfew hours.

For all researchers, in San Francisco and other cities, please work with your PIs and teams to adjust schedules as needed. While we recognize that this may interrupt research that was just resumed, your health and safety remain our top concern.

Your compliance with these mandatory orders is appreciated. I will inform you once it is no longer required or if there are any changes.

*Please forward these details to all employees and learners whom you supervise.*

 Sincerely,
