June 24 Federal Research Update | OMB Uniform Guidance
Dear Colleagues,
As I mentioned in my recent Federal Research Update on June 2, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a proposed revision to the Uniform Guidance that directs the grant-making process at federal agencies and has asked for public comment. An excellent summary of the major components of this proposal can be found here. I want to provide a brief update on UCSF’s planned institutional response.
UCSF’s goal is to develop a comprehensive institutional response that reflects the perspectives and priorities of our faculty, staff, and learners. My office is coordinating this effort and is gathering input from our community through UCSF’s established shared governance and leadership structures, including the Academic Senate and Dean’s offices. This approach (the same one that we used to respond to the recent NIH strategic plan RFI) enables us to gather representative feedback from across UCSF in an efficient and coordinated manner.
We are also continuing to coordinate closely with colleagues across the UC system, other research institutions, and associations. I will provide a second update once the UCSF response is complete to share its priority themes.
Please remember that individuals can submit personal comments on the OMB’s proposed changes. I would encourage you to add your voice to the record. The University of California has created this resource page to assist you in this effort.
Thank you for your continued engagement and commitment to our research mission.
Sincerely,
Hal
