May 6 Federal Research Update Regarding NIH/HHS Awards

Dear Research Community,

In a follow-up to my April 23 message regarding the NIH/HHS update to the Civil Rights Protections section of its Grants Policy Statement (GPS), I am writing to share that UCSF will resume accepting NIH/HHS Notice of Awards (NOAs) under the revised grants policy statement as we are, and will remain, fully compliant with all state and federal laws referenced in the new GPS.

In addition, we have seen an uptake in NOAs requiring an attestation that the recipient (meaning UCSF) is compliant with federal Title IX requirements to draw down funds. We will continue to accept these awards as well, as we are, and will remain, fully compliant with the Title IX statute.

For our research faculty, no additional action is needed to resume receiving award funds.

We recommend that you touch base with your department’s grants officer and continue to send any questions to the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) by emailing [email protected].

As always, please see our landing page for updated guidance and contact [email protected] with questions.

We know this temporary pause has caused some uncertainty and confusion, and we thank you for your partnership while we awaited further direction.

UCSF leadership is working daily with the UC Office of the President and other stakeholders to advocate for you and your research. Please stay tuned, and you can continue to reach me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Hal
